The provincial requirements for COVID-19 immunization in primary care clinics are more complex than influenza vaccine requirements, and include mandatory use of the provincial COVaxon vaccine management system.

OntarioMD is offering training for primary care practices that have been identified by their local public health unit to administer COVID19 vaccinations. If you would like to consider administering AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine in your clinic, please email for more details.

Training sessions demonstrate how to access and use the provincial COVaxON  Vaccination Management System. The COVaxON system enables the Ministry of Health, Vaccination Locations, and staff to collect the necessary data related to COVID-19 immunization administration.

Training Details

  • COVaxON training is provided virtually, via Microsoft Teams.
  • Session content is customized by job role.
  • Sessions include:
    • Clinical Workflow training for staff involved in checking in patients, administering the vaccine, and checking out patients. Most individuals within the practice are anticipated to need this training.
    • End-to-End training for those involved in managing vaccine inventory and reconciliation. This training also includes an overview of the clinical workflow as these users may train others in the practice.

You can find information about the vaccine, billing and compensation, as well as frequently asked questions via the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) which is working with the Ministry of Health, Chief Medical Officer of Health and health-system partners to provide up-to-date information, resources and guidance to members.
